Bere Island parkrun

Every Saturday

9.30am
GAA Pitch, Rerrin

The Bere Island parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9.30am from the GAA Pitch, Rerrin.  For those travelling in from the mainland, a ferry leaves Castletownbere at 9am, with a shuttle bus service to the startline of the parkrun.  The ferry returns to Castletownbere at 11.15am.  Booking is esential for the bus on 086 2423140.  For details on registering for the parkrun see www.parkrun.ie

 

Bere Island Midsummer Run

Saturday 13th July

A 5k and 10k run around an Athletics Association Ireland measured loop on the eastern end of Bere Island. Walkers can also take part in a 5k walk.  For full details see www.bereisland.net

 

Children's Summer Camps

July and August

Children's summer camps take place from 9th-11th July, 30th July - 1st August and 13th-15th August.  Sports, games and arts and crafts for ages 6+ at Rerrin GAA Pitch.  For details contact 027 75099.

West Cork Fit Up Theatre Festival - "Before"

Saturday 20th July 2019, 8pm at the Lecture Theatre, Rerrin.

'Before' written and performed by Pat Kinevane.  A ferry leaves the Pontoon at 7pm and returns after the performance. Tickets available on the door €15 each, concessions €12.50 and family ticket €40 (2 adults and 2 teens).

Join us to recount your stories about the folklore and cultural traditions surrounding the Celtic Festival of Lughnasadh on Bere Island, the festival of the harvest and the coming of autumn.

 

Heritage Week Event: Recording Your Family’s History

Wednesday 21st August, 2pm – 3pm Bere Island Heritage Centre
If you have a family member who loves to reminisce about ‘the good old days,’ why not record their memories and stories for future generations? This workshop will assist you in doing so using a mobile phone app. Please bring a smart phone with you if you have one.

 

Heritage Week Event: Island Traditions

Wednesday 21st August, 3pm – 4pm Bere Island Heritage Cenre

Bere Island has a wealth of craft traditions, knitting, woodturning, lacemaking, boatbuilding and many more. Come along and share the traditions and crafts of your family. If you have any items made using traditional crafts, please bring them along to show so they can be photographed and documented for future generations of islanders.

Thursday 22nd August, 11.30am – Meet outside Murphy’s Shop,Rerrin 

Islander Chris Sullivan will lead a walk around Bere Island’s military fortifications and recounts what life was like for islanders living in one of Europe’s most strategic military locations.
