Overview Garinish Island (2)a
Glengarriff Tourism and Development Association
Working for Tourism in Glengarriff

The Glengarriff Tourism and Development Association (GTDA) provides a forum for local tourism interests to meet and discuss matters relating to the betterment of Glengarriff as a tourist destination.

GTDA produces the leaflets promoting Glengarriff and is involved in many other initiatives as well as being responsible for the Glengarriff’s annual entry in the Tidy Towns Competition. The body liaises closely with local and national governmental organizations, including Cork County Council, the National Parks and Wildlife Service through the Wildlife Ranger for Beara and the Regional Manager, the Office of Public Works through the Park Superintendent for Garinish Island, the Forest Service of the Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with particular reference to the Neighbourwood Scheme; and the Dept. of Social Protection who administer the CES (Community Employment Scheme). GTDA also have close links with local officers of Failte Ireland.

Glengarriff can rightly be called Ireland’s Garden Haven. As well as the world-famous Italianate Gardens on Garinish Island, there is also the Ewe Experience, Ireland’s only interactive sculpture garden, a unique combination of nature and art - set within a privately-owned nature reserve. The Bamboo Park, on the shores of Glengarriff Harbour, contains over 30 different species of bamboo surrounded by palms and other tropical plants. Glengarriff Nature Reserve boasts an oceanic Sessile Oak woodland, and the reserve also includes rocky moorland, streams and bog.

Accommodation in Glengarriff includes hotels, B&B’s, hostels, self catering cottages, and caravan and camping sites. The hotels, restaurants, bars and coffee shops offer a taste for every palate and a price for every pocket. The shops and galleries present a wide selection of products and gifts for visitors and locals alike.
