Nestled at the foot of the Caha Mountains Castletownbere is surrounded by rugged beautiful scenery. It is Irelands premier whitefish port and the nearby bars and restaurants cater amply for the seafood enthusiast. There are many high quality Bed and Breakfasts and Hostels and now the recently reopened beautiful Beara Coast Hotel.
Situated towards the western end of Beara Castletownbere is a great starting point from which to explore The Ring of Beara. A circular route can take you eastwards to Kenmare and across to Glengarriff. Alternatively, your trip may take you further west to the remote location of Dursey Island and the country's only cable car. A great experience. From Dursey continue along to the colourful charming villages of Allihies and Eyeries. For the golf enthusiast why not visit Berehaven Golf Course.
Sea Angling and Coastal trips can be arranged with rods and tackle for hire if necessary. Shore angling is available at numerous designated sites. You may also enjoy whale and dolphin watching from both land and sea. Dursey Island is a haven for bird watchers.
The Beara Way walking route has many shorter loops around Castletownbere as well as being part of the full 200km (125m) route.
