About Tuosist / Lauragh
Situated on the northern side of the Beara peninsula, the parish of Tuosist is the only Beara parish located in the county of Kerry. 35kms long, it sits between mountains and sea with some wonderful valleys and glens to be explored.
Tuosist is rich in archaeology and many fine examples of standing stones can be found here such as at Uragh, Gleninchaquin and at Cashelkelty, Lauragh. Located in Lauragh is a cave which contains ancient writing which may predate ogham script. Traces of past civilisation are to be found everywhere.
The area is also rich in natural beauty. We are bordered by Kenmare Bay on one side the soaring Caha Mountains on the other. We have many lakes which are easily accessible including Glenmore Lake and Gleninchaquin Lake. The area abounds with many grades of walks. The walk at Gleninchaquin waterfall is particularly beautiful but as the Beara Way Walking Route passes through the area the choice of walks are plentiful.
The people of Tuosist are a welcoming lot. Friendly encounters can be had at the many establishments in the area. We have pubs, cafes, restaurants and bicycle hire as well as a myriad of places to stay, from bed and breakfast to glamping.
